Mexican Institute of Sound is a Mexican electronic-music project created in 2004 by Mexico City producer and DJ Camilo Lara. Its sample-based tracks draw on cumbia, funk and hip-hop; albums including Méjico Máxico, Piñata and Político, along with the song “México,” established the project’s sound. A 2012 appearance at Coachella forms part of a festival history that also includes Vive Latino in Mexico City. The project later documented its live-band setup in an NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert led by Camilo Lara.
