Midwife in Salford

Midwife is the solo project of American musician Madeline Johnston, based in Denver. She describes its sound as “heaven metal”: slowcore songwriting, shoegaze distortion and ambient drone heard on albums including Like Author, Like Daughter, Forever, Luminol and No Depression in Heaven. In 2022, Midwife joined Deafheaven for North American dates on the Infinite Granite tour, taking the project through rock clubs and theatres. That year Johnston also brought Midwife’s voice-and-processed-guitar performance to Roadburn Festival in Tilburg.
