Miriam Cruz in Union City

Miriam Cruz is a Dominican merengue singer who became known as a lead vocalist of the all-female group Las Chicas del Can. Her best-known recordings with the group include “La Loba,” “Juana la Cubana” and “El Negro No Puede,” while “Cosas de Él” became a signature song of her solo career. Miriam Cruz toured Latin America, Europe and Japan during her years with Las Chicas del Can, bringing the group’s orchestral merengue to international stages. In 2023, she celebrated four decades in music with an anniversary concert at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx.
