Monsieur Periné in New York

Monsieur Periné is a Colombian band formed in Bogotá in 2007, led by singer Catalina García and multi-instrumentalist Santiago Prieto. They play Latin pop informed by swing, jazz and Colombian rhythms. The group is known for songs including “Nuestra Canción” and “Bailar Contigo,” as well as the albums Caja de Música and Encanto Tropical; it received the Latin Grammy for Best New Artist. Monsieur Periné played Rock al Parque in Bogotá and later Vive Latino in Mexico City. In 2016, the band appeared at Bonnaroo in Tennessee and performed a Tiny Desk Concert at NPR in Washington, D.C., where “Nuestra Canción” was part of the set.

Tall Juan is the solo project of Argentine singer-songwriter Juan Zaballa, who grew up in the Buenos Aires punk scene, played with Fantasmagoria and later settled in Far Rockaway, Queens. He adopted the stage name to distinguish himself from his friend and collaborator Juan Wauters. His debut album, Olden Goldies, arrived in 2017 and drew on the Ramones and rockabilly, while Atlantico incorporated music connected to his Latin American background. Mac DeMarco recorded the Why Not? EP, and Wauters played drums on it. Tall Juan has performed extensively in New York, including shows in private living rooms. He has also toured across the Americas, Asia, Australia and Europe.
