Mortiis in Chihuahua City

Mortiis is the solo project of Norwegian musician Håvard Ellefsen, established in 1993 after his departure from Emperor. Its early keyboard-led dark ambient work, later widely associated with dungeon synth, includes Født til å Herske, Ånden som Gjorde Opprør and Keiser av en Dimensjon Ukjent. The Smell of Rain introduced an industrial rock direction that also shaped The Grudge and The Great Deceiver. Mortiis’s 2004 concert at the Underworld in London documented the full-band industrial period and was released as the live film Soul in a Hole. In 2017, he returned to his early synthesizer material for the Cold Meat Industry 30th-anniversary event in Stockholm.
