Nile Rodgers & Rick Astley in Basel

Nile Rodgers is an American guitarist, songwriter and producer, born in New York City in 1952 and best known as the co-founder of Chic with bassist Bernard Edwards. He co-wrote Chic’s “Le Freak” and “Good Times,” produced David Bowie’s album Let’s Dance and Madonna’s Like a Virgin, and played guitar on and co-wrote Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.” Nile Rodgers and Chic played the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury Festival in 2013, then returned in 2017 for the Pyramid Stage. In 2019 they opened for Cher on dates of the Here We Go Again Tour. In California, Nile Rodgers and Chic performed at Coachella, while their appearances in England have included the Isle of Wight Festival.

Rick Astley is an English pop and soul singer, born in Newton-le-Willows in 1966. His debut single, “Never Gonna Give You Up,” and the album Whenever You Need Somebody established his best-known dance-pop sound, while “Together Forever” and “Cry for Help” became further signature songs. “Never Gonna Give You Up” later found a new audience through the internet prank known as rickrolling, and the album 50 marked his return to recording after a long break. Rick Astley joined Take That as a special guest on the 2019 Greatest Hits Live tour, performing in arenas and stadiums around the UK. At Glastonbury in 2023, he made his festival debut on the Pyramid Stage, then performed a set of songs by the Smiths with Blossoms at Woodsies.
