About Negative Approach
Negative Approach is an American hardcore punk band formed in Michigan in 1981, fronted by vocalist John Brannon. The group helped establish the terse, confrontational sound of early Detroit hardcore through its self-titled EP and the album Tied Down, which includes songs such as “Ready to Fight” and the title track.
During its original run, Negative Approach played Detroit rooms including the Freezer Theatre and Graystone Hall, both central to the city’s all-ages punk scene. After breaking up in 1984, the band reunited for Touch and Go Records’ 25th-anniversary celebration in Chicago in 2006. The reunion was followed by further club and festival dates, including Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas and Rebellion Festival in Blackpool.
