New Jazz Underground in Barcelona

New Jazz Underground is an American jazz trio formed in New York by saxophonist Abdias Armenteros, bassist Sebastian Rios and drummer TJ Reddick. The group plays hard bop and free jazz, and its self-produced performance videos helped introduce original compositions and arrangements to a wider audience. Its debut album, Harlem to Havana, draws on the members’ New York and Cuban musical backgrounds. New Jazz Underground won the DCJazzPrix competition after performing in the final at the DC Jazz Festival. The trio later played a Tiny Desk Concert, documenting its core saxophone, bass and drums setup in the offices of NPR Music.
