NIGHTMARE are a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in Sendai in 2000. Their music draws on heavy metal, gothic rock and melodic hard rock, and they are widely associated with “the WORLD” and “Alumina,” the opening and ending themes used for the anime Death Note. Their catalogue also includes “Raison d'être,” recorded as an opening theme for Claymore. The band played its first headline concert at Nippon Budokan in 2007, then marked its tenth anniversary at Saitama Super Arena in 2010. NIGHTMARE suspended activities after a 2016 concert at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, and returned to the stage for a twentieth-anniversary performance at Yokohama Arena in 2020.
