Nine Below Zero & Dr. Feelgood in Southend-on-Sea

Nine Below Zero are a British rhythm-and-blues and blues-rock band formed in south London in 1977, originally as Stan’s Blues Band. Led by singer and guitarist Dennis Greaves and known for Mark Feltham’s harmonica, they built their early catalogue around the albums Live at the Marquee, Don’t Point Your Finger and Third Degree, including songs such as “Three Times Enough” and “Eleven Plus Eleven.” A 1980 performance at the Marquee Club became the band’s debut album and established live recording as a central part of their story. They supported The Who on a UK tour in 1981, then split in 1983. Nine Below Zero reunited in 1990 for a tenth-anniversary concert at the Town & Country Club.

Dr. Feelgood are an English rhythm-and-blues and pub-rock band formed on Canvey Island in 1971. The original lineup comprised singer Lee Brilleaux, guitarist Wilko Johnson, bassist John B. Sparks and drummer John Martin, known as The Big Figure. The albums Down by the Jetty and Malpractice established their lean, guitar-led sound, while “Roxette,” “Back in the Night” and “Milk and Alcohol” became enduring parts of their catalogue. In 1975, the band recorded performances at Sheffield City Hall and Southend Kursaal for Stupidity, the live album that became their first UK chart-topper. Successive lineups kept Dr. Feelgood on the road after Johnson left and Brilleaux died, preserving a touring history rooted in clubs and theatres. The band continues to perform with Robert Kane on vocals.
