About Norm Lewis
Norm Lewis is an American actor and baritone, born in Tallahassee, Florida, in 1963. He is known for playing Javert in Les Misérables, Porgy in The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess and the title character in The Phantom of the Opera. His performance as Porgy earned him a Tony Award nomination.
Lewis made his Broadway debut in The Who’s Tommy in 1993. He later played Javert in the 2006 revival of Les Misérables and Porgy in the 2012 production of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess. In 2014, he became the first African American actor to play the Phantom in the Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theatre.
