About Os Mutantes
Os Mutantes are a Brazilian rock band formed in São Paulo in 1966 by brothers Arnaldo Baptista and Sérgio Dias with Rita Lee. Their psychedelic rock and pop became closely associated with the Tropicália movement, and their best-known recordings include “A Minha Menina,” “Bat Macumba” and “Ando Meio Desligado,” as well as the albums Os Mutantes and A Divina Comédia ou Ando Meio Desligado.
In 1967, Os Mutantes accompanied Gilberto Gil for his performance of “Domingo no Parque” at the Festival of Brazilian Popular Music. The band reunited at London’s Barbican in 2006, when Sérgio Dias, Arnaldo Baptista and Dinho Leme performed with Zélia Duncan on vocals. Later that year, the reunited group performed at the Hollywood Bowl as part of a concert headlined by The Flaming Lips.
