Oval in Barcelona

Oval is a German experimental electronic project formed in Darmstadt in 1991 by Markus Popp, Sebastian Oschatz and Frank Metzger. The project became known for building fragmented, melodic tracks from damaged and skipping compact discs, particularly on the albums Systemisch and 94diskont and the piece “Do While.” The original trio performed Oval’s early material before the project became the solo work of Markus Popp. He subsequently brought Oval’s computer-based performances to clubs and experimental-music events, including Montreal’s MUTEK and Barcelona’s Sónar.
