Paolo Fresu in Milan

Paolo Fresu is an Italian trumpeter, flugelhorn player and composer, born in Sardinia in 1961. He plays contemporary jazz shaped by post-bop, cool jazz and electronic textures, and is known for the Paolo Fresu Quintet and the Devil Quartet. His recordings include Mistico Mediterraneo with A Filetta and Daniele di Bonaventura, and Alma with pianist Omar Sosa. The Paolo Fresu Quintet, formed in 1984, became his long-running concert group. In 1988, he founded Time in Jazz in Berchidda, serving as its artistic director and appearing as a performer. His later concert projects have included the electric Devil Quartet and duo performances with pianist Uri Caine.
