About Patti Smith
Patti Smith is an American singer, songwriter and poet associated with the New York punk scene of the 1970s. Her 1975 debut album, Horses, opens with her reworking of Van Morrison’s “Gloria”; her best-known songs also include “Because the Night” and “People Have the Power.”
In 1975, the Patti Smith Group played a seven-week residency at CBGB, appearing before Television. She returned in October 2006 to perform the club’s final concert. In 2015, she marked the 40th anniversary of Horses with a tour built around performances of the album in full.
Patti Smith performed Horses at the Roundhouse in London during that anniversary tour. She returned to the city in 2021 to perform at Royal Albert Hall.
