About Paulinho Da Viola
Paulinho da Viola is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, guitarist and cavaquinho player, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1942 and closely associated with samba, choro and the Portela samba school. His best-known compositions include “Foi um Rio que Passou em Minha Vida,” “Dança da Solidão,” “Argumento” and “Coração Leviano.”
The 1997 concert album Bebadachama documented his samba repertoire on stage after the release of Bebadosamba. A decade later, Acústico MTV presented another live survey of his songs, arranged for an acoustic ensemble. In 2016, he performed the national anthem at the Olympic Games opening ceremony at Maracanã.
