Pennywise in New Haven

Pennywise is an American punk rock band formed in Hermosa Beach, California, in 1988. Their fast, melodic hardcore became closely associated with skate punk, led by songs including “Bro Hymn” and “Fuck Authority” and albums such as About Time and Full Circle. Pennywise played repeated editions of the Vans Warped Tour throughout the 1990s and 2000s, while their own tours brought them to clubs and theatres. They later performed at Australia’s Soundwave festival and joined NOFX for Punk in Drublic festival dates.

Circle Jerks are an American hardcore punk band formed in Los Angeles in 1979 by vocalist Keith Morris and guitarist Greg Hetson. Their debut album, Group Sex, became an early document of Southern California hardcore, and their best-known recordings include “Wild in the Streets,” “Beverly Hills” and “Live Fast Die Young.” Later albums included Wild in the Streets and Golden Shower of Hits. Circle Jerks were filmed onstage for Penelope Spheeris’s documentary The Decline of Western Civilization, which preserved performances by several bands from the early Los Angeles punk scene. After reunion periods in the 1990s and 2000s, the band returned to the stage at Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas in 2021. The 40th Anniversary Tour followed in 2022, when Circle Jerks toured with 7Seconds and Negative Approach.
