Artist
Perpetuum Jazzile is a Slovenian vocal ensemble founded in Ljubljana in 1983 as Gaudeamus; it adopted its present name in 2001. The group performs a cappella arrangements of pop, rock and jazz, and is best known for its version of Toto’s “Africa.” At Vokal Xtravaganz 2008, the ensemble performed the arrangement that produced its widely circulated concert video. Filmed at Cankarjev dom, the performance brought the group’s body-percussion rainstorm and layered choral parts to an international audience. Perpetuum Jazzile later marked its 30th anniversary with an arena concert at Arena Stožice. The show is performed as a vocal orchestra: singers supply the lead lines, harmonies, bass and percussion. Its best-known concert set piece remains the rainstorm that opens Toto’s “Africa.”
