Phil Lesh & Friends was an American jam-rock project created in 1994 by Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh. Built around a changing cast of musicians, it reworked the Grateful Dead catalogue through extended improvisation, including songs such as “Dark Star,” “Box of Rain” and “Unbroken Chain.”

Phil Lesh & Friends made its concert debut at Berkeley Community Theatre in 1994. A 1999 run at the Fillmore Auditorium featured Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, Steve Kimock and John Molo, establishing the rotating-lineup approach that shaped later performances. After Lesh opened Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael in 2012, the project played there repeatedly and also mounted recurring runs at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester.
