About Quinteto Astor Piazzolla
Quinteto Astor Piazzolla is an Argentine tango ensemble formed in 1998 under the auspices of the Astor Piazzolla Foundation to perform the composer’s music. Its repertoire includes works such as “Libertango,” “Adiós Nonino” and “La muerte del ángel,” while its recordings include the albums Revolucionario and Operation Tango.
The ensemble performs in the five-part format closely associated with Piazzolla’s nuevo tango: bandoneon, violin, piano, electric guitar and double bass. Its filmed Tiny Desk concert for NPR Music documented that lineup in Washington, D.C.
