Ravi Coltrane in Los Angeles

Ravi Coltrane is an American jazz saxophonist and composer, born in Long Island in 1965. The son of John and Alice Coltrane, he has built his own catalogue around contemporary jazz, post-bop and improvisation, including the albums Moving Pictures, From the Round Box and Spirit Fiction. In the 1990s, he toured with Elvin Jones’ Jazz Machine before leading his own quartets in clubs and at festivals. He later performed with the three-saxophone ensemble Saxophone Summit, then played concerts in the In Movement trio with bassist Matthew Garrison and drummer Jack DeJohnette.
