Reggie Watts in San Luis Obispo

Reggie Watts is an American comedian and musician, born in Stuttgart in 1972 and raised in Great Falls, Montana. He creates improvised musical comedy using beatboxing, live vocal loops, keyboards and absurd spoken monologues; he also fronted the Seattle soul band Maktub. His best-known screen work includes the specials Why Shit So Crazy? and Spatial, as well as his role as the original bandleader on Comedy Bang! Bang!. In 2010, he opened for Conan O’Brien on the Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour. He then opened LCD Soundsystem’s 2011 farewell concert at Madison Square Garden, and Reggie Watts: A Live at Central Park documented his loop-based solo act for Comedy Central. From 2015 to 2023, he performed nightly as bandleader and announcer on The Late Late Show with James Corden. The show is a solo performance built around voice, keyboard and loop pedals. Reggie Watts records vocal lines onstage, then layers rhythm, harmony and character voices into improvised songs and spoken passages.
