Renée Elise Goldsberry in Charleston

Renée Elise Goldsberry is an American singer and actor, born in 1971 in San Jose. Working in musical theatre, soul and R&B, she is best known for originating Angelica Schuyler in the Broadway production of Hamilton and performing the show’s signature number “Satisfied.” The role earned her the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. In 1997, she originated the role of Nala on Broadway in The Lion King, then created the role of Nettie in the original Broadway production of The Color Purple. She joined Hamilton for its 2015 premiere at The Public Theater and remained with the production when it transferred to the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
