Rita Payés in Copenhagen

Rita Payés is a Spanish singer, trombonist and composer born in 1999 in Vilassar de Mar, Catalonia. She began performing with Joan Chamorro’s Sant Andreu Jazz Band and was introduced on the album Joan Chamorro presenta Rita Payés. Her recordings with her mother, classical guitarist Elisabeth Roma, include Imagina and Como la piel, drawing on jazz, bolero and bossa nova. Rita Payés’s NPR Music Tiny Desk (Home) Concert presented her voice and trombone beside Roma’s guitar, including performances of “Nunca vas a comprender” and “Algo contigo.” Their partnership also forms the core of her concert work, supported by a small ensemble on material from Como la piel. Rita Payés has performed at North Sea Jazz in Rotterdam and at Jazzaldia in San Sebastián.
