Rodrigo y Gabriela in Santa Fe

Rodrigo y Gabriela are a Mexican acoustic-guitar duo formed by Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero after they moved to Dublin. Their instrumentals use flamenco and rumba techniques in arrangements shaped by rock and heavy metal. They became known through the self-titled album Rodrigo y Gabriela and tracks including “Tamacun” and “Diablo Rojo”; later records include 11:11 and the Grammy-winning Mettavolution. The duo played Glastonbury in 2007 after building an audience through busking and club performances. The 9 Dead Alive Tour later took them through major theatres, while the Mettavolution cycle included a 2019 concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Concerts center on two amplified acoustic guitars. Rodrigo Sánchez usually carries the lead lines, while Gabriela Quintero supplies rapid rhythm, percussive strumming and taps on the guitar body; Metallica’s “Orion” has also appeared in their live repertoire. The duo has brought this two-guitar format to London’s Royal Albert Hall and Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
