Samthing Soweto is a South African singer and songwriter from Soweto who first became known as a member of the vocal group The Soil. He records soul, afropop and amapiano; the Sun-El Musician collaboration “Akanamali” and the album Isphithiphithi, which includes “Akulaleki” and “Amantombazane,” are among his best-known works.

He performed in The Soil’s voice-and-beatbox format before pursuing solo work. For NPR Music’s Tiny Desk (home) series, he later presented his solo catalogue with a band, performing “Akulaleki,” “Amantombazane” and “Nodoli.”
