About Sanctuary
Sanctuary is an American heavy metal band formed in Seattle in 1985, known for Warrel Dane’s high-register vocals and Lenny Rutledge’s guitar work. Their early albums Refuge Denied and Into the Mirror Black produced songs including “Battle Angels” and “Future Tense”; after a long recording hiatus, the band released The Year the Sun Died.
Sanctuary toured with Megadeth and Warlock during the Refuge Denied era, then returned to performing after reuniting in 2010. The band appeared at Wacken Open Air in 2012 and later toured behind The Year the Sun Died. Following Warrel Dane’s death in 2017, the group eventually returned to the stage with vocalist Joseph Michael.
