Scientist is the stage name of Hopeton Overton Brown, a Jamaican recording engineer and producer born in Kingston in 1960. He learned electronics from his father and developed his mixing skills under dub pioneer King Tubby before becoming the principal engineer at Channel One, where he worked with the Roots Radics. His early-1980s dub catalogue includes Heavyweight Dub Champion, Scientist Meets the Space Invaders, Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires and Scientist Wins the World Cup. Scientist has presented live dub shows in clubs including Het Bos in Antwerp and the Jazz Cafe in London.
