Sham 69 in Northampton

Sham 69 are a British punk band formed in Hersham, Surrey, in 1975. Their direct songs and chant-led choruses became associated with street punk and the emerging Oi! scene. The band are known for “If the Kids Are United,” “Hurry Up Harry,” “Angels with Dirty Faces,” “Borstal Breakout” and the albums Tell Us the Truth and That’s Life. Sham 69 played Reading Festival in 1978 during the band’s original run. Concerts in that period were repeatedly disrupted by violence involving rival skinhead groups, and the band split in 1980. A reunion followed in 1987, and subsequent lineups returned to clubs and punk festivals, including Rebellion Festival in Blackpool.
