Silkroad Ensemble & Cécile McLorin Salvant in Toronto

Cécile McLorin Salvant is an American jazz singer and composer, born in Miami in 1989. She won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition in 2010 and became known for precise, character-led interpretations of standards alongside her own songs. Her releases include the Grammy-winning albums For One to Love, Dreams and Daggers and The Window, as well as Ghost Song and the French-language Mélusine. The 2017 double album Dreams and Daggers drew much of its material from performances at New York’s Village Vanguard. In 2018, she premiered her song cycle Ogresse at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, performing the work with an orchestra conducted by Darcy James Argue. Her concert history includes the purpose-built SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco and the classical recital setting of Wigmore Hall in London.
