Simrit in New York

Simrit is a Greek-born American singer, songwriter and composer raised in South Carolina. She performs devotional world music built around a deep contralto, mantra-based lyrics and chamber instrumentation; her best-known releases include Songs of Resilience and When We Return. The concert album Live, Spring 2017 documented Simrit’s touring repertoire and ensemble format. Her performances place voice and harmonium within a band that has included kora player Salif Bamakora and cellist Shannon Hayden.
