Soul Asylum & Ugly Kid Joe in Sydney

Soul Asylum is an American alternative-rock band formed in Minneapolis in 1981, initially under the name Loud Fast Rules. Led by singer and guitarist Dave Pirner, the group became widely known through the album Grave Dancers Union and the songs “Runaway Train,” “Somebody to Shove” and “Black Gold.” Soul Asylum recorded an episode of MTV Unplugged in 1993 and performed at Woodstock ’94 the following year. In 1997, the band played a prom in Grand Forks for students affected by the Red River flood; that performance was later issued as After the Flood: Live from the Grand Forks Prom, June 28, 1997.

Ugly Kid Joe is an American hard-rock band formed in Isla Vista, California, in 1989. Their music draws on alternative metal and funk metal, and they are best known for “Everything About You,” their version of Harry Chapin’s “Cats in the Cradle,” the EP As Ugly as They Wanna Be and the album America’s Least Wanted. The band supported Ozzy Osbourne on the No More Tours tour in the early 1990s and performed at Woodstock ’94. After reuniting in 2010, Ugly Kid Joe returned to major European festivals, including Download Festival in 2012.
