SPECIAL OTHERS are a Japanese instrumental quartet formed in Yokohama in 1995. They play jam-oriented rock shaped by jazz, post-rock and math-rock rhythms, and are known for tracks including “AIMS” and “Laurentech” and albums such as Good Morning and QUEST. The band has performed repeatedly at Fuji Rock Festival and has used the QUTIMA name for a long sequence of headline tours. In 2013, the quartet played its first concert at Nippon Budokan, later adding open-air performances at Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall to its live history. The standard concert setup features guitar, keyboards, bass and drums, leaving room for extended instrumental passages. The same four musicians also perform rearranged material through their parallel acoustic project, SPECIAL OTHERS ACOUSTIC.
