Stanley Jordan is an American jazz guitarist, born in Chicago in 1959, whose music includes jazz, fusion and instrumental interpretations of popular songs. He is known for a two-handed touch technique that lets him sound independent melodic and harmonic lines on the fretboard. His Blue Note debut, Magic Touch, and Standards, Vol. 1 established that approach on record. Stanley Jordan appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1985. He performed at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2004, and the concert film The Paris Concert later documented his trio at New Morning. His concerts feature solo guitar as well as trio arrangements supported by bass and drums. A recurring solo showcase is his arrangement of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.”
