Stewart Lee is an English stand-up comedian, writer and director, born in Wellington, Shropshire, in 1968. He is known for the television series Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle, for co-writing and directing Jerry Springer: The Opera with Richard Thomas, and for stand-up built around repetition, digression and commentary on the mechanics of comedy. Standup Comedian marked his return to solo stand-up in 2004, followed by 90s Comedian at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and on tour. Later theatre tours included Content Provider and the paired Snowflake/Tornado shows, which were filmed at York Theatre Royal. He has played extended London runs at Leicester Square Theatre and brought his solo tours to The Lowry in Salford.
