sunn O))) is an American drone-metal group formed in Seattle in 1998. Its music is built on sustained, down-tuned guitar tones and has been documented on albums including Black One, Monoliths & Dimensions and Life Metal. In 2007, sunn O))) performed inside Bergen Cathedral, and the concert was released as the live album Dømkirke. The group later mounted the Life Metal tour in 2019, presenting its long-form pieces in theatres and at festivals. The concert format centers on heavily amplified electric guitars, extended low-frequency drones, hooded robes and dense stage fog. At the center of this format are Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson.
Black Mountain are a Canadian psychedelic rock band formed in Vancouver in 2004 and led by singer and guitarist Stephen McBean. Heavy guitar riffs, extended arrangements and vintage keyboard textures shape albums including Black Mountain, In the Future and Wilderness Heart; their best-known songs include “Stormy High,” “Wucan” and “The Hair Song.” In 2005, Black Mountain opened for Coldplay on North American dates of the Twisted Logic Tour. The touring cycle for In the Future later included 2008 appearances at Coachella and Glastonbury Festival. Most of their shows have taken place in Canada and the United States, and they have also toured the United Kingdom repeatedly.
