Takuya Kuroda is a Japanese trumpeter and composer, born in Kobe in 1980 and based in New York. He plays instrumental jazz shaped by funk, soul, Afrobeat and hip-hop, and is known for albums including Rising Son, Zigzagger and Fly Moon Die Soon. José James produced Rising Son, which includes Kuroda’s versions of “Everybody Loves the Sunshine” and “Afro Blues.” In 2014, Takuya Kuroda performed music from Rising Son with his band for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert. He returned to the same trumpet-led ensemble format for a 2016 performance in Jakarta at Java Jazz Festival.
