Artist
The Tannahill Weavers are a Scottish traditional folk band formed in Paisley in 1968. They are known for placing Highland bagpipes within an ensemble of flute, fiddle, guitar and vocals, and for arrangements of traditional songs, ballads and dance tunes. Their recordings include Are Ye Sleeping Maggie?, Cullen Bay and Capernaum. The band made its first United States tour in 1981, beginning decades of concert work across North America, Europe and Australia. Its 50th-anniversary year in 2018 brought further touring and the retrospective album Òrach. The group performs as a full folk ensemble, moving between sung material and instrumental sets led by pipes, flute and fiddle. Singer and guitarist Roy Gullane and flautist Phil Smillie have been central to that concert format for much of the band's history.
