Tarja Turunen in Hamburg

Tarja Turunen is a Finnish singer, born in 1977, whose classically trained soprano became central to Nightwish’s early symphonic-metal sound. As the band’s original lead vocalist, she recorded albums including Oceanborn, Wishmaster and Once, as well as songs such as “Nemo” and “Wish I Had an Angel.” Her solo catalogue includes My Winter Storm, What Lies Beneath and the single “I Walk Alone.” In 2005, Nightwish’s End of an Era concert at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki marked her final performance with the band. She subsequently mounted the Storm World Tour for her solo material, followed by the What Lies Beneath tour. Her 2012 concerts at Teatro El Círculo in Rosario were filmed for the live release Act I. Her solo rock concerts feature a full band and draw on both her own records and her Nightwish catalogue. Beauty and the Beat presented classical pieces and rock songs with an orchestra, choir and drummer Mike Terrana.
