The 8-Bit Big Band in Boston

The 8-Bit Big Band is an American jazz orchestra founded in New York in 2017 by composer and bandleader Charlie Rosen. The ensemble recasts video-game music as big-band jazz, swing and jazz fusion on albums including Press Start!, Choose Your Character! and Backwards Compatible. Its arrangement of “Meta Knight’s Revenge” from Kirby Super Star, featuring Button Masher, won a Grammy. The ensemble made its live debut at Sony Hall in New York, where Rosen conducted the large orchestra through arrangements developed for its recordings. Later concerts brought that format to seated rooms including the Berklee Performance Center in Boston and the Kennedy Center in Washington.
