The Avengers in Sacramento

The Avengers are an American punk rock band formed in San Francisco in 1977, fronted by singer Penelope Houston. Their early recordings include “We Are the One,” “Car Crash” and “The American in Me,” songs that became central to the group’s catalog. The Avengers played Mabuhay Gardens during their original run and performed before the Sex Pistols at the latter’s final concert, held at Winterland Ballroom in January 1978; the Nuns also appeared that night. After the original group split in 1979, reunion performances brought Penelope Houston and guitarist Greg Ingraham back to the stage together.
