About The Brian Jonestown Massacre
The Brian Jonestown Massacre is an American psychedelic rock band formed in San Francisco in 1990 by Anton Newcombe. Its catalogue ranges through neo-psychedelia, shoegaze and garage rock, including the albums Methodrone, Take It from the Man! and Their Satanic Majesties’ Second Request. The band is also known for “Anemone” and “Straight Up and Down,” which became the theme music for Boardwalk Empire.
The 2004 documentary Dig! captured years of the band’s touring and performances, as well as its fraught relationship with The Dandy Warhols. They later played Glastonbury Festival in 2014, adding a major festival appearance to a live history built largely through sustained international touring.
The concert format uses a full electric lineup led by Anton Newcombe on guitar and vocals, and it has often included longtime tambourine player Joel Gion. They have headlined theatre-sized venues and large clubs including London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town and Amsterdam’s Paradiso.
