The Effigies are an American hardcore punk band formed in Chicago in 1980, fronted by vocalist John Kezdy. Their early records helped establish the city’s punk sound, particularly the Haunted Town and We’re Da Machine EPs and the album For Ever Grounded; “Haunted Town” and “Body Bag” remain key songs in their catalogue. The Effigies made their live debut at the punk club Oz in 1980 and went on to tour beyond their home scene during the band’s original run. After periods of inactivity, they returned to the stage for reunion performances that included Riot Fest.
