The Grass Roots & The Buckinghams in Shipshewana

The Grass Roots are an American pop-rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965, initially developed as a recording project by songwriters and producers P. F. Sloan and Steve Barri. Their best-known records include “Let’s Live for Today,” “Midnight Confessions,” “Temptation Eyes” and “Sooner or Later,” songs built around vocal harmonies, prominent hooks and touches of folk rock and psychedelic pop. The Grass Roots performed at the Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Music Festival in 1967 during the band’s early run of hits. Rob Grill later led touring versions of the group for decades on the oldies circuit, and subsequent lineups have appeared repeatedly on the Happy Together Tour.

The Buckinghams are an American pop-rock band formed in Chicago in 1965. Their brass and orchestral arrangements became a hallmark of late-1960s hits including “Kind of a Drag,” “Don't You Care,” “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” “Hey Baby (They're Playing Our Song)” and “Susan.” In 1967, The Buckinghams performed on national television programs including The Ed Sullivan Show and American Bandstand. After re-forming in 1980, they returned to the concert circuit and later toured with The Turtles and The Grass Roots as part of the Happy Together Tour.
