About The Manhattans

The Manhattans are an American R&B and soul vocal group formed in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1962. Their close harmonies and romantic ballads became widely known through “Kiss and Say Goodbye,” “Shining Star,” “There’s No Me Without You” and “Hurt.”

The Manhattans performed “Kiss and Say Goodbye” on Soul Train during the 1970s. Decades later, Gerald Alston fronted the group for the PBS concert Rhythm, Love & Soul, recorded at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh.
