The Polyphonic Spree is an American choral rock band formed in Dallas in 2000 by Tim DeLaughter. Its psychedelic and symphonic pop sound was introduced on The Beginning Stages of..., which included “Light & Day/Reach for the Sun,” and developed further on Together We're Heavy. David Bowie invited The Polyphonic Spree to perform at the 2002 Meltdown festival he curated at the Royal Festival Hall in London. The band later supported him on dates of A Reality Tour, bringing its large ensemble into theatres and arenas. The group's concerts feature a choir alongside a rock band and orchestral instruments, all directed by Tim DeLaughter. Coordinated robes became a signature part of its early stage presentation. The group performed at Glastonbury Festival and later brought the ensemble to Coachella. Its recurring year-end concerts were billed as the Holiday Extravaganza.
