The Ruins of Beverast is a German atmospheric black metal project founded in Aachen in 2003 by Alexander von Meilenwald, formerly the drummer of Nagelfar. The project is known for long, densely arranged compositions that draw on doom metal, dark ambient and ritualistic vocals, particularly on the albums Unlock the Shrine, Rain Upon the Impure, Exuvia and The Thule Grimoires. The project made its concert debut at Roadburn Festival in Tilburg in 2013, where von Meilenwald’s studio work was adapted for a full live band. Later appearances included Prophecy Fest, held inside the Balver Höhle in Balve.
Esoteric are a British funeral doom metal band formed in Birmingham in 1992. Led by founding guitarist and vocalist Greg Chandler, the group is known for long compositions, dense guitar layers, psychedelic effects and harsh vocals. Its key albums include Epistemological Despondency, The Pernicious Enigma, The Maniacal Vale and A Pyrrhic Existence. Esoteric became a more active concert band in the 2000s and went on to tour European clubs and specialist metal events. Their extended compositions are performed by a full band, preserving the layered guitars and extreme vocals central to the recordings. Festival appearances have included Roadburn in Tilburg and Brutal Assault in Jaroměř.
