The Sisters of Mercy are an English rock band formed in Leeds in 1980 by Andrew Eldritch and Gary Marx. Their post-punk and gothic rock is represented by the albums First and Last and Always, Floodland and Vision Thing, and by songs including “Temple of Love,” “This Corrosion” and “Lucretia My Reflection.” The band’s 1985 concert at the Royal Albert Hall was filmed for the live video Wake and marked the end of the First and Last and Always-era lineup. Andrew Eldritch returned with a new lineup and toured behind Vision Thing in 1990 and 1991, establishing the live configuration used in the decades that followed. The concert lineup centres on Andrew Eldritch’s vocals and electric guitars, while programmed percussion is performed under the name Doktor Avalanche.
