About The Sugarhill Gang
The Sugarhill Gang is an American hip-hop group formed in 1979 in Englewood, New Jersey, with an original lineup of Wonder Mike, Big Bank Hank and Master Gee. Sylvia Robinson assembled the trio for Sugar Hill Records, and “Rapper’s Delight” brought recorded rap to a broad pop audience. Their early catalogue also includes “8th Wonder” and “Apache (Jump on It).”
In 2019, The Sugarhill Gang marked the 40th anniversary of “Rapper’s Delight” through live appearances that included Glastonbury Festival, performing there with Grandmaster Melle Mel and Scorpio. In 2023, they took part in Hip Hop 50 Live at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
