The Vaselines are a Scottish indie-pop band formed in Glasgow in 1986 by Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee. Their concise, jangling songs include “Son of a Gun,” “Molly’s Lips” and “Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam”; Nirvana later recorded all three. After re-forming, the band released the albums Sex with an X and V for Vaselines. In 1990, after the original split, Kelly and McKee reunited the band for a one-off performance supporting Nirvana at Calton Studios in Edinburgh. A longer reunion brought The Vaselines to Sub Pop 20 at Marymoor Park in Redmond in 2008. They then returned to club and festival touring, including Primavera Sound in Barcelona, and played dates behind their later albums.
